Are you ever too old for Christmas?!

Christmas-post-1

Believe it or not the festive season is almost upon us. It’s crazy how fast this year has flown by, it only feels like yesterday that we were putting up our Christmas tree! With all of the Christmas music playing, the lights being set up around the town and the Christmas foods and decorations in the shops, it’s got us thinking, are you ever too old for Christmas?!

When we were younger we would spend the whole lead up to Christmas opening up our advent calendars every day, enjoying the Christmas music and movies that were playing on the TV and getting that excited festive feeling in our bellies! It’s safe to say nothing has really changed here (yes we’re 17 and 20 and we still have advent calendars!) apart from that warming Christmas feeling. We guess when you get older that excitement starts to leave you which is sad, but we always find a way to make ourselves feel a little more Christmassy. After all, Christmas isn’t just for the kids!

For starters, we always try to make a big deal about decorating the house! Putting the decorations up with a Christmas film or Christmas songs playing in the background reinforces the fact that Christmas will soon be upon us! We both hate when it gets dark early in the evenings, but isn’t it just made so much better once all of the Christmas lights are up?!

For us, Christmas films are a also big deal! From the beginning of December, we try to watch at least one Christmas film a week, just to help make us feel a little more in the spirit! Our top Christmas films have got to be Elf, The Grinch and The Santa Clause series, it wouldn’t feel like Christmas if we didn’t watch these. Another big tradition for us is making Christmas themed bakes, gingerbread men and houses in particular; we even got Kyle and Joe involved last year!

We asked our friends on Twitter how they get in the Christmas spirit, and here are a few of our favourite replies: xmas-tweets

Are you a fan of the holiday season or do you think it’s just for kids? Let us know how you get in the mood for Christmas!

  1. I’m 26 and still love Christmas although I think it does lose a little of the magic once you get past a certain age. Part of the fun is keeping old traditions alive and enjoying the things you couldn’t do as a kid such as drinking mulled wine and buying proper gifts. 🐱
