Pink, it’s our new obsession… | Styling the Statement Coat

So we’re still not entirely sure what the meaning of that song really is… but hey it makes for a pretty catchy blog title regardless right? Plus, who doesn’t love a bit of Aerosmith?! It is true though, surprisingly we’ve a new found love for the colour pink. A lot of the time we wear mainly monochrome outfits, so it’s nice to add a pop of colour somewhere and in this case it’s in the form of a coat.

Pink in general has been on trend lately, which has shocked us a little as we personally associate the colour with Spring and Summer as opposed to the colder seasons. We personally haven’t worn much pink for years now as we steered away from it when we went through our wanna be ‘punk’ phase (everyone had one right?) and never got back in to it as a colour. That’s until now and the main for this is because of these amazing statement coats that we’re about to show you!

Teddy coats are so in right now and I have wanted one for so long. I found this beautiful pink coat online from New Look and at first I wasn’t really sure if I should play it safe and buy it in black, or take a risk and go for the pink one. Being a person who’s so self conscious, I tend to shy away from bold colours that stand out and draw attention to me. But seeing other people wearing coats similar to this and looking amazing in them, I just had to brave it and get one myself! I can say it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not only is it stylish but it has kept me SO warm since the weather has got colder!

With the coat being pink, I opted to wear black underneath just to avoid any colour clashing. I have been living in this high neck top from Primark for the past few weeks! It’s a fairly thick and warm material and just goes with any kind of coloured or patterned trousers (which I am also loving). It goes perfectly with these trousers I got from Topshop a few years ago. I didn’t want to wear plain black trousers or jeans, so these trousers were ideal as the small white polka dots just make the outfit a little bit more interesting. I love cropped trousers because they look smart but can be made more casual by simply chucking on a pair of vans! I don’t even know how many times I’ve styled these shoes on here but they’re just perfect for when you want to wear smart clothes but not look too overdressed.

I got this bag a few months ago and thought it would be a nice touch to the outfit. It has pink floral embroidery to match the whole pink theme! Quite often if I’m wearing a bold colour I like to match different accessories with it or add a splash of it to my makeup, hence the pink nails and eye makeup. All in all I’m just really in love with the colour at the moment and I just feel it’s actually quite a mature colour. Here’s to hoping I can find a load more cute pink items to add to my wardrobe!

Never in a million years did I think I would own a pink coat, that’s until I found this beauty in Primark. I already own a black coat similar to this one from H&M and I love the style of an Aviator jacket as they are little oversized but at the same time, do not swamp me. I noticed that Primark sold this in 3 different colours (black, grey and pink)  however, they only had my size in the pink so I an ‘F it’ moment and the rest it history!

Although I would normally avoid pink like the plague, I have zero regrets about purchasing this toasty, super soft, marshmallow jacket.  For the small price of £30, can you really go wrong (that’s become a catchphrase for us!!)? It did come with a pink leather belt too but I wasn’t really feeling that, so that went to the back of my wardrobe, never to be seen again! I personally feel that the whole point of a ‘statement’ coat is that it’s the main focus of your outfit, therefore I wanted the rest to be quite monochrome. I love the Houndstooth print so when I found this skirt on Asos I just had to purchase it. I feel like it goes really well with the pink, it might just be me though as I haven’t a clue about fashion (I like to pretend I do!).

Of course I had to pair this skirt with a good old high neck, ribbed top. These have become a staple in my wardrobe as they’ve so versatile. In terms of shoes, surprise surprise I’m wearing my trusty leather Docs. I could have worn my new Dr Martens Chelsea boots but I didn’t want to get them muddy so these babies were the next best thing. I will never, ever get bored of Dr Martens, so if you guys are bored  of seeing them in every fashion post I do apologise! Finally, to complete the outfit I took my new favourite bag out from Primark. I feel like it’s so bloggery and it’s just the right size to fit all my ‘essentials’ in! I’m really feeling this outfit, I think it may be my favourite ‘blog’ outfit to date.

Do you guys have any statement coats? We’re loving bold coats and the moment. Not only are they really stylish but they keep you super warm too. We’re feeling brave with our fashion recently, so it looks like we’ll be buying lots more statement coats in the future and wearing lots of pink shades also! A good coat can make an effortless outfit look bang on trend and we love that!
