The Do’s and Don’ts of Lush Cosmetics

For anybody who knows us or our blog you’ll know we are huge fans of Lush and their products. However, when you’re pretty obsessed with a brand, it can leave a dent in your bank balance and we’ve definitely learn’t this over the past year! When it comes to Lush, we’ve realised there are a few do’s and don’ts and knowing them can help you save money and get the most out of your products. Whether you’re a newbie to Lush or have been using their products for years, hopefully the following tips will help you to utilise the products you already have and save you a few pennies!

With the majority of Lush’s products, you’re able to ask for a sample so you can try before you buy. This means you’re not wasting money on products you won’t use. The staff in all of the Lush stores we’ve been in have been friendly, so don’t be afraid to ask for a few samples, they won’t mind! We’ve had quite a lot of samples, some given to us and some that we’ve asked for and after using them we’ve realised whether we like or dislike a product, thus saving us money!

If you aren’t lucky enough to have a bath in your house, you could be missing out on some of the best products Lush have on sale, bubble bars. However this shouldn’t be the case, as we’ve said many times before…you don’t need to have a bath to use bubble bars! You can use bubble bars in the shower by breaking a piece off and crumbling it in your hands with a bit of water to make a paste. Then you can use it as a sort of body scrub and it leaves your skin feeling and smelling great!

A lot of people often use a whole bubble bar for one bath and that’s completely fine, we’ve done it before. However, if you’re trying to save money, try cutting up bubble bars and using a half or even a quarter at a time. You won’t get as many bubbles but it doesn’t really make that much of a difference!

Whenever you buy a bath bomb you can guarantee that by the time you get home, there will be a tonne of bath bomb ‘dust’ at the bottom of the bag! If you put all of your dust in a jar, not only will it make a pretty decoration in your room, it’ll also make a cool bath one day! We’ve seen some really cool videos online of baths that are filled with Lush Dust so we’re eager to fill our jars up.

So for us, if we like an item that’s from an exclusive range, we’ll bulk buy it. Yup, if there’s a bath bomb we like at Christmas, we’ll buy around 6 of them. Since we don’t really have a lot of time to take baths regularly, we both have no need for 6 of the same bath bombs! Yes it’s horrible knowing you won’t be able to get a certain product for a year, or it might not be released again, but trust us it’s not worth wasting the money! This brings us on to our next point…

This point won’t be an issue for everyone but we personally like our bath bombs to move around, fizz lots and make patterns in the tub. If you leave your bath bombs for a long period of time, they’re likely to sink and not really do anything. We keep all our bath bombs wrapped tight in cling film and we’ve even stored them in plastic containers to combat this. However, the longer you leave them the quicker they sink. We’ve promised ourselves that with this year’s Christmas range, we will only buy around 2 of each item if we really like it. It does suck knowing a product is exclusive but we’d rather have only 2 of a bath bomb and use them up quickly than have 6 that we leave. It’s such a waste when they sink and not being able to hear a bath bomb fizz actually saddens us!

We get it, you’ve spent a lot of money on a new face mask and you want to make sure you get your money’s worth. You apply it sparingly to make sure the pot lasts as long as possible, then a few months later you notice your beloved Mask of Magnaminty has gone all watery! We’ve been there and it’s not good. Always look at the use by dates on Lush products and if it’s a product like a face mask, be sure to use it up by that date. This doesn’t apply to every Lush product, but it’s still better to use a product up quickly than have to throw it away because it’s gone all mushy!

Well you can do this if you want, but mixing different Lush bath bombs and bubble bars can possibly lead to you creating a murky, strange smelling bath cocktail! We’ve wasted some of the best bath bombs before by throwing them in with any old bubble bar that doesn’t share a similar scent or colour and it ruins the whole ‘show’ that the bath bomb gives you. Stick to similar colours and smells when using bath products and we promise you you’ll have the best bath cocktails ever!

We hope that these tips have been useful for you and hopefully will help you save a bit of money! We’re definitely going to try stop ourselves going crazy with this year’s Christmas range! Do any of you have tips of your own? We’d love you to share them!

  1. Great tips, I’ve had a few samples from Lush, one of which inspired me to pick up Yummy Mummy shower cream! But I hadn’t heard of a Lush Dust Jar before, I love the idea, will definitely be trying that out! I also found out the hard way recently that bath bombs don’t last forever 😦 Haha x
